Great Items at Nature Craft Fair

Loosestrife Beetles on the Move

Left: Back in 1997, Lakehead Conservation made its first release of Galerucella beetles that feed only on purple loosestrife.

This year, LRCA staff received four cases of beetles through a provincially funded program. The beetles were released at three sites close to the Kam River. Right: Ontario Rangers tackled a large patch of Purple Loosestrife growing in a ditch near the John St. and Highway 17 intersection. Four pickup truckloads of plants were removed.
