2017 LIVING CLASSROOM PROGRAMS

October 12th

The LRCA will once again be hosting a series of outdoor programs over the course of six months. The full lineup of topics has tentatively been selected, but be sure to follow our website closely and sign up for our newsletter to stay up to date!

The list of event dates are as follows:

TRAILS AND TAILS DOG ADOPTION FAIR

12:00 p.m. - 3:00 p.m.

The 2017 Trails and Tails Dog Adoption Fair will once again be held at Cascades Conservation Area! Join the LRCA and local rescues as we showcase adoptable pets and stress responsible pet ownership (including on-leash recreation).

The Dog Classroom will be hosting an ON-LEASH walking club hike at 1:00 p.m.

The session will begin with a tree lecture in the Lakehead Region Conservation Authority’s Multi-purpose Room. Participants will be bused to Little Trout Bay Conservation Area for a closer look at the changes of the season and tree species of the Boreal Forest. Tree identification guides will be available for use during the walk.

STRATEGIC PLAN PUBLIC OPEN HOUSE

STRATEGIC PLAN PUBLIC OPEN HOUSE

5:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m.

The Lakehead Region Conservation Authority (LRCA) has embarked on a six-month process to create our first strategic plan, which will play an important role in shaping the LRCA’s planning, decision-making, and collaboration with community partners over the five-year period from 2018 to 2022.

Please attend an open house on Thursday, October 5 between 5:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. at the LRCA Administrative Office (130 Conservation Road, Thunder Bay), where you can review the draft strategic priorities and provide your input into the LRCA’s strategic plan. This session is a casual event where you can review the materials at a time convenient to you, and discuss the proposed priorities with the planning team.

If you are unable to attend but would like to provide feedback, an online questionnaire will be available on Friday, October 6 at www.lakeheadca.com.

We look forward to your input into our first strategic plan!

LIVING CLASSROOM- Birding at Mission

LIVING CLASSROOM- Birding at Mission

8:45 a.m. - 2:00 p.m.

Meet LRCA Staff at our Administrative Office located at 130 Conservation Road at 8:45 a.m. Participants will be bused to Mission Island Marsh Conservation Area, which is located along well-known migration routes for waterfowl and songbirds in Thunder Bay, Ontario. A guided hike with a focus on birds and birding techniques will be highlighted for this session. Binoculars and viewing scopes will be on hand for participants to borrow.

Be sure to dress appropriately with proper footwear (e.g. rubber boots, waterproof hikers, etc.), and don't forget to bring your camera and binoculars!

PRE-REGISTRATION IS REQUIRED AS SPACE IS LIMITED.

FALL WATERFOWL VIEWING DAY

FALL WATERFOWL VIEWING DAY

October 14th

The 2017 Fall Waterfowl Viewing Day will be held from 9:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. at Mission Island Marsh Conservation Area on Saturday, October 14th. Once again the LRCA and expert birders from the Thunder Bay Field Naturalists will guide participants around the Conservation Area in search of migratory birds. No experience is necessary! Be sure to dress appropriately as this event runs rain-or-shine. Be sure to bring your binoculars, cameras and field guides!
