RAISING FUNDS FOR CONSERVATION

The Lakehead Conservation Foundation (LCF) is a non-profit corporation. As a charitable organization, receipts are issued for donations, which provides a tax relief for supporters.

The Lakehead Conservation Foundation was formed by concerned citizens in the community with the following objectives:

  • To aid, promote and give assistance to the Lakehead Region Conservation Authority's (LRCA) conservation and recreation land management program;
  • To promote the practice of conservation; and
  • To enhance the education of people with respect to proper management of natural resources.

Right, Foundation President Phil Jarvis presents Authority Chairman Bill Bartley with a cheque for $25,000 fo environmental education programming.

Memorial Grove Ceremony COMMUNITY PARTICIPATION

As concerned citizens of our community, you can help in conserving renewable natural resources through a donation of artefacts, land or in a monetary fashion. Volunteering your time, enthusiasm and creativity would also be welcome.

The LCF currently has several programs and projects underway. Citizens can participate in the Blake Memorial Grove program and have a tree planted in memory of a departed loved one. Over 4.000 trees have already been planted.

Hazelwood Lake Centre FUNDING PROJECTS

The LCF has helped with improvements to facilities at Conservation Areas, such as Mission Island Marsh and Little Trout Bay Conservation Areas. The Foundation raised over $100,000 for construction of the new Hazelwood Lake Nature Centre in 1997.

We funded trail and facility improvements at Cascades Conservation Area. A pavilion, interpretive displays, trail maps and washroom have been installed. In 2002, landscaped steps were installed at some steep trail sections, two bridges were placed over a small creek and a handicap-accessible trail loop was paved.
