Memorial Grove Program

The Blake Memorial Grove is a co-operative program between Blake Funeral Chapel, the Lakehead Conservation Foundation and the Lakehead Region Conservation Authority. Under the program, Blake Funeral Chapel donates a tree in memory of departed individuals served by Blake's. In addition, anyone in the community may also purchase a tree. The cost of the tree is $55.

Since the program began in 1991, approximately 300 trees per year have been planted and now total more than 5,000 trees. The Memorial Grove extends along both banks of the Neebing-McIntyre Floodway from Fort William Road to the Harbour.

A dedication service is held each year at the end of June. Donations of trees made during 2010 will be planted in the spring of 2011 and remembered at the ceremony in June 2011. As well, a certificate is issued to the family of the deceased and the name is entered into the memorial register at Blake Funeral Chapel.

The service for donations made in 2010 will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, June 12, 2011, at the Slovak Legion on Atlantic Avenue (near the Neebing-McIntyre Floodway). Family and friends of those remembered in the Memorial Grove are invited to attend.

(The service for donations received in 2009 will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, June 27, 2010 at the Slovak Legion.)
