If someone falls in, run for help - don't try and rescue them yourself
Get an adult to call Emergency Services
Show an adult where the person fell in
Coach the victim: tell them not to panic
Tell them to swim to the edge of the riverbank or the edge of the ice
Have them hold onto the edge so that they can rest and keep afloat
Instruct them to kick their legs and pull with their arms to try to get out of the water
Tell them to roll themselves onto the ice or bank
If they cannot get out, tell them to hold onto the edge. Help will be here soon
If they get out tell them to crawl to safety on the land
