AREA ICE CONDITIONS TREACHEROUS

Thunder Bay - Ontario Provincial Police warn the public that ice conditions this season are unpredictable and treacherous.

The warning comes after Geraldton OPP received information that two people went through the ice on Burrows Lake, north of Geraldton, last week.

Police said the unidentified people were able to get out of the water and off the ice to safety.

The OPP suggest people take extra precautions before going onto a frozen lake and drill test holes across the ice to check the thickness.

It's also a good idea for those not familiar with a lake to check with someone who is to determine if it is safe and where there are currents and thinner ice.
