Items Needed: * a plastic spoon From a regular sheet of paper, cut a 2 cm wide strip. Use the tape to attach one end of the strip of paper to the end of the spoon handle. Go to the kitchen sink and turn on the tap. Now imagine that the spoon is a child that has fallen into a fast moving river. The running water will represent the current of a river. Hold the end of the paper between your fingers. Let the spoon dangle down with the back of the spoon facing the water. Move the spoon so that it is in the middle of the running water. What happens to the spoon in the water? Slowly move your hand back. Did the spoon change its place in the water? Notice how the spoon flips and flops when it first touches the water. It then remains steady in the center of the water, even if you move your hand a bit. That is the current pulling the spoon into the centre. |
