Right: Officials announce the new dock at a media event along the Kam River. R to L: Rick Potter, Lakehead Conservation Chairman, talks to a member of the media, while Mayor Ken Boshcoff and Councillor Ed Metzler (City of Thunder Bay) and Mervi Henttonen (Lakehead Conservation) look on.

A new accessible fishing dock will be built along the Kam River for people with special needs. The dock will be adjacent to the Neste boat launch facility at the south end of Mountdale Avenue. There will be spaces between the railing posts so that you can land your catch.

People will be able to fish in the Kam River with beautiful Mount McKay looming in the background. Fish species that frequent the river include pike, perch, walleye and smallmouth bass.

The accessible dock is made possible through a $10,000 grant from the Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources. The Ministry has a goal of providing more angling and hunting opportunities to people with special needs.

The Neste boat launch at Mountdale Avenue is operated by the City of Thunder Bay. Lakehead Conservation will act as project coordinator and construction supervisor. The dock will be ready for use this spring.
