Great Items at Nature Craft Fair

Left: The annual Nature Craft Fair was a time to shop for unique gifts and enjoy the autumn scenery.

Garden Party a Big Hit

Right: Big crowds came out to the first annual Garden Party, hosted by the Lakehead Conservation Foundation. Several tables of perennial flowers and other plants were sold at a brisk pace. Master Gardener Ralph Bullough gave a very informative talk on growing roses.

Loosestrife Beetles on the Move

Left: Purple loosestrife is a European plant that is invading wetlands across North America. Back in 1997, Lakehead Conservation released Galerucella beetles that feed only on purple loosestrife.

This year, staff collected beetles at one of our successful release sites and transferred them to a loosestrife growing site along the Kam River. David Ellingwood, LRCA staff (left), uses a magnifying lens to show beetle damage on loosestrife leaves to newspaper photographer Sandi Krasowski.
