FACELIFT for CASCADES
excerpted from 1997 LRCA Annual ReportOriginally posted: Jan. 1998
One of our most popular Conservation Areas will get a facelift over the next few years.

An update of the Cascades Master Plan recommends trail improvements, better signage and new visitor facilities near the parking lot. These are the ideas that came out of the comments received during open houses and discussions with area users.

On the trails, a creek crossing will be built on the Yellow trail near the river. Some wet spots will also be addressed by boardwalks or filling. Vandal-proof trail markers and directional signs will be placed to help visitors navigate the trail system.

The parking lot will be enlarged and paved. Features will be added to make the area more secure. A washroom, trail maps, interpretive signs, benches and a picnic pavilion are being planned as well.

The Lakehead Conservation Foundation has pledged to raise $100,000 over the next few years towards these improvements.
