FOREST CAPITAL OF CANADA
excerpted from 1997 LRCA Annual ReportOriginally posted: Jan. 1998
Thunder Bay and communities in Northwestern Ontario are hoping to be declared the Forest Capitol of Canada for the year 2000.

The designation would mean recognition for the valuable role forestry plays in our economy. There would also be celebration activities throughout the year and potential conferences and meetings.

A legacy project is being proposed that would link the recreation areas on the Current River through a natural corridor. This beautiful watercourse has many public access points, such as Cascades Conservation Area and Centennial Park, that would form the base for the system.

The Conservation Authority was part of the committee assembling the bid. It was our pleasure to host some of the meetings in our Boardroom and at the Hazelwood Lake Centre.
