Outstanding natural beauty, proximity to the City and an extensive trail network are what make Cascades a popular recreation site.

In 1998, work began on a major upgrade to visitor facilities at Cascades Conservation Area. The first step was improvements to the parking lot, which were completed in the fall. Planning of signage, trail crossings and the picnic pavilion also proceeded this year.

The total project cost for Cascades will be in the order of $345,000. The Lakehead Conservation Foundation will be a major contributor by helping to raise funds in a $130,000 Cascades campaign. The Millenniuim Bureau of Canada is providing funds toward the pavilion and interpretive displays.

The improvements at Cascades are part of the Current River Greenway. This trail corridor will link public lands along the Current River from Lake Superior up to the top of the Cascades and perhaps beyond. The Greenway will be a Millennium Legacy Project in honour of the Forest Capital of Canada celebrations being held in Northwestern Ontario in the year 2000.
