Cedar Creek
Cedar Creek, shown here at Stroms Sideroad in O'Connor Township, winds through forested lands for most of its 62 km length.

Lakehead Conservation is continuing its series of watershed planning exercises. This year, work was done for a report about Cedar Creek.

The Cedar Creek watershed extends from its confluence with the Whitefish River upstream through O'Connor and Conmee Townships and westward in to the unorganized townships of Adrian and Marks.

Water quality testing and benthic sampling of the aquatic life found the watercourse to be in good shape and generally free of human impacts. Conservation staff also collected information on land use, zoning, erosion sites and stream crossings. Computer maps of this information and photos of the stream crossings were incorporated into the report.

Much of the lower portion of the watershed is used for agriculture, while the portion in the unorganized townships is predominantly under forest management.

The report will serve as baseline data that can be compared in the future to detect any changes in the watershed characteristics.
